Beach huts at Mudeford

Beach huts on Avon Beach

Mudeford lies at the entrance to Christchurch Harbour. Mudeford Quay is a popular spot for fishermen and local fish can be purchased here to take home.

Mudeford Sandbank

Over the other side of the harbour entrance is Mudeford Sandbank which joins onto Hengisbury Head and is home to many prized beach huts, which can sell for as much as 165,000. It is possible to reach the Spit by road by parking at Hengisbury Head and then walking along the access lane to Mudeford Sandbank, or by taking the ferry from Mudeford Quay.

Avon Beach itself has been privately owned by the Derham family since the 1930s. Avon Beach is well provided for with a car park, caf, shops, toilet facilities, and of course, lots of beach huts, many of which have their own individual style.

These beach huts are extremely popular, as they enjoy views towards the Isle of Wight. Back in January 2009, over fifty people queued to get a beach hut lease.
